So, as my last post may have hinted to, I am becoming obsessed with smoothies. I decided I would post all ingredients I have thought of for smoothies because there are so many different options. I have not tried all of these and I cannot think of everything of course but this should be able to start you out!
First off fruits: now I am no health expert so this is all based off of what I have read...
Fat Burning Fruits:
- Grapefruit*
- Watermelon
- Berries*
Low Cal/ High Fiber Fruits:
- Blackberries*
- Raspberries*
- Blueberries*
- Peaches
- Nectarines
Fruit Great for Your Skin:
- Berries*
- Pomegranate
Healthiest Fruits Ever:
- Apricots
- Raspberries*
- Cantalope
Fruits that Boost Your Matabolism:
- Grapefruit*
- Apples
Other Fruits:
- Bananas
- Grapes
- Pineapple
- Oranges
(I am sure there is more but this is all I can think of right now)
Veggies (or foods that are like veggies):
Fat Burning Veggies:
- Cucumbers
- Celery
Low Cal/ High Fiber Veggies:
- Carrots
Veggies Great for Your Skin:
- Avocados*
- Spinach*
Healthiest Veggies Ever:
- Avocados*
- Spinach*
Veggies That Boost Your Matabolism:
- Spinach*
Other Veggies:
- Kale
- Lettuce
(I am sure there are more but I do not know of any others that would be good in smoothies, but I am not sure)
Liquids:
- Green Tea (Fat Burning, great for your skin)
- Coffee (Fat burning, Boosts your metabolism)
- Pomegranate Juice (Great for your skin)
- Soy Milk (Boosts your metabolism)
- Almond milk (Basically any kind of milk including Oat milk)
- Apple juice (basically any fruit juice)
Other Ingredients:
A lot of times when I make a smoothie I like to not only add a liquid but also add yogurt because it makes it creamy and yummy!
- Greek Yogurt is fat burning
- Oatmeal/ Oats (Fat burning, boosts your metabolism)
- Ginger
- Cinnamon
- Honey (I have heard that cinnamon and honey are really good for people for many reasons, I do not know why it is but I have heard that multiple times)
- Nuts (walnuts, peanuts, almonds, pistachios, etc.)
- Peanut butter
- Dark Chocolate
- Coconut. Coconut flakes
Here are some smoothie ideas:
- Peanut butter and banana (and chocolate)
- Chocolate and coffee (add some kind of milk and yogurt). This one might be difficult because it does not have as much substance
- Strawberries, spinach, oats, honey, yogurt, almond milk
A great way to get ideas for smoothies is to go to smoothie shops and see what sounds good to you and go home and try to make it. The beauty of this is that you can put more of the ingredients you want and less of the ones you want less, etc.

Smoothie 365 #1
Hello again everybody,
So like I said in my last post, I am trying to get fit and healthy. One great way of doing that is eating healthy. I am definitely not a veggie person but I do love fruits so I thought what better way to get fruits AND veggies into my diet than, you guessed it, smoothies. I have always loved smoothies ever since I can remember and I have recently discovered that smoothies taste just as good when you add a little veggie in there as well.
I have read in the past that people would add spinach to their smoothies and they always said you could not taste the difference, and I did not believe them. Well finally the other day my family and I tried a smoothie with some spinach and they were right, I could not taste the difference and neither could my 9 year old nephew (we did not tell him there was spinach in it and he had 2 helpings)! The best part about this recipe is that it does not look green so kids will not see the difference. Here is the smoothie we tried: Day 1 (there are 5 smoothies on there and we tried the first one). Now in my family we always tend to look at recipes more like guidelines so here was our variation:
2 cups blueberries
2 cups strawberries
1 banana
2 hand fulls of spinach
2 cups apple juice
Here is a tip: If you are new to smoothie making one of the best ways to get your smoothies ice cold is to freeze your fruit beforehand, that way you do not need ice and your fruit will last longer in the freezer. Sometimes we even put together a mixture of fruit in Ziploc bags and put them in the freezer so the mixture is already ready when you want to make your smoothie. Before putting the fruit into Ziploc bags spread them out on something flat like a cookie sheet and freeze them that way they are not all stuck together then once frozen put them in the bag. Another thing is that all smoothies need some sort of liquid in them otherwise they will not blend so if your smoothie is not blending well try adding more of your juice or whatever your liquid is.
The other day my mom made another smoothie, this time we did not have any spinach but we did have cucumber. We decided to try it and I think cucumber in a smoothie is my new favorite. I do not know the exact amounts but this is what was in it.
apple juice
strawberries
pineapple
cucumber (about 1/3 of one, peeled)
The cucumber made it very refreshing and this blend almost made the smoothie taste like a strawberry candy. Also this smoothie was pink so there was no indication of the green color of the cucumber at all. In this case we could taste the cucumber but it was not overpowering and if I did not know it was there I do not think I would know what the flavor was.
I suggest that if you are scared about tasting the spinach or other veggies then just add a little bit at first and/or try veggies that are not as powerful in taste.

Caffeine Fighting Cancer
"Drinking a cup of coffee (or two cups of tea) per day reduces the risk of nonmelanoma skin cancer by about 5 percent. Caffeine may signal precancerous cells to self destruct, says Allan Conney, director of the Laboratory for Cancer Research at Rutgers University"

DIY or Buy
I am a person who loves to craft. I am always thinking of what new fun and creative thing to do next. I constantly see things that I love and think to myself "would it be very difficult to make that on my own?" DIY (do it yourself) projects can many times be less expensive. No need to spend $50 on an item that you can make for $20 right? Well maybe, maybe not. Sometimes your time is more valuable than money and when you DIY it can sometimes take up a lot of your valuble and limited time.
Hopefully this blog will help me to not only find great DIY projects but also to put them into action. I will bring you a comparison of my inspiration (buy) vs. my creative DIY project, and if I do not find the time at least I can plant the idea in you head and point you in the direction of some great products. So ask yourself: What would you rather do... DIY or BUY?
